ANGELS TO THE RESCUE

The day after quitting my position of National Marketing Representative, Mining Division, Dominion Engineering Works Ltd. of Montreal, on February 1, 1975, I experienced a Spiritual awakening as unexpected and powerful to me as I imagine the conversion of Saul on the road to Damascus. I was just turning 30.

Before that Day, I was like most of the population. I never thought of God. I had no need of God and made no room for God in my Life. I had no Christian friends, and except for the Jehovah Witnesses and the Mormon Missionaries knocking on my door, never talked about God.

Seven months later, I had sold all my possessions, and with a backpack on my back, on September 1, 1975, leaving Country, family and friends in my Spiritual wake, headed into the United States to discover the Spirit of ´76.

Three days later I arrived in Trenton N.J., scene of the American Revolutionary War battle of Trenton on Christmas Day, 1776 and where Washington crossed the Delaware.

Leaving the downtown Bus Terminal at 1am, it was eerie to be on dark dreary streets with no moving cars or human life to be seen, all the shops having ugly iron barriers over the windows. I thought, ´Jesus, it looks like a Neutron Bomb was dropped and the wind blew all the dust away.´

The nuclear device called the Neutron Bomb, which American power developed from an idea and turned it into a reality, does not destroy the property, but releases enhanced dirty radiation into the atmospheres so only the People die a slow torturous death, with the loot left intact. These days the media just call it a dirty bomb.

Having no idea where I was going, I walked for blocks until I met a policeman on the beat, the 1st person I saw. Naturally stopping to talk, It eventually came out he was a Morman. While I was attempting to share God and Jesus, it seemed to me he couldn´t get beyond Joseph Smith. While our talk was friendly and civil, not being able to reach common understanding, I asked if he could direct me to a clean, cheap, comfortable Hotel?

Giving me explicit directions he then said, ¨But I wouldn´t go there if I were you.” Asking why not? he answered, ¨It´s right in the nigger district.” I replied that doesn´t bother me, as long as the Hotel is clean, cheap and comfortable and continued on The Way.

Following the directions, there was no human life to be seen as I walked down a very wide Boulevard. Across the street was a City Park that was the whole block, locked, with a high iron fence around it. I was told to turn left at the end of the park and the Hotel was at the end of that block.

From the wide Boulevard I turned onto a very narrow street. The park was on one side, with poor, modest housing facing it. There were trees every five feet on both sides of the street and all the branches joined in the middle. The entire block was a tunnel, with the only light at the end of the tunnel appearing to be far away.

I was about a quarter way through when I heard sound behind me. Turning back, two young Black guys were quickly coming toward me. Stopping in place, as they got closer, I spoke first, saying, ¨I´m glad to see you guys. What´s with this town? Where´s the life? You´re the first people I´ve seen other than one cop on the beat.¨

One guy says, ¨Where you cummin´ from, man? ¨Montreal, Canada. Where you guys going?¨ He replied, “We´re goin´ to get some dynamite weed, man.”

Having long hair, a beard and brand new bright shiny red/orange back pack on my back, they had confidence I was not a narc. I replied, ¨Dynamite weed? Sounds like something I´d love to check out. If that’s True, Brothers, if you want to take me, I’m with you.”

We started walking together through the tunnel and one guy pulled out a joint and firing it up passed it to me. By the third toke, the shades went up, the lights came on, and I was enjoying a real good, strong, friendly buzz with these strangers.

I said, ¨If you´re going to get dynamite weed, what do you call this? I think it´s really good.” He replied, “Hey, man. That´s just cheap commercial shit. What we´re going to get is dynamite!”What could I say but, “Brothers, if that´s True, if you want to take me, I´m with you. I´d love to check that out.”

We walked and talked for blocks. I had no idea where we were going. Turning a corner, I could see at the end of the block, a gang of 20-30 young people were gathered around the corner lamp post. In this part of Trenton white people are rarely seen in daylight, never mind at 2am.

In between talking with my new friends, it took a nanosecond to pray/think to God. ‘Lord, I trust I´m here with your Peace, your Love, your Goodness and your Strength,’ and continued on The Way in confidence and no paranoia.

Arriving at the corner, there was a radio blasting good tunes from a window of the corner house. Taking off my backpack and leaning it against the rickety picket fence, I turned to face the crowd. There was an energy in the atmosphere as I was being peppered with many questions as the joints were connecting from every direction. The scene was cool and casual. I was happy and content being there.

After a long time, one guy suddenly came out of the crowd and standing in front of my face, said, ¨Hey man! I want your backpack. I´m taking it. It belongs to me now.¨

The atmosphere changed instantly, and the people who had been calm and casual up to that point became speedy, nervous and shifty. Instantly I prayed/thought to God, ‘Lord God Jesus! Give me the right words to speak.’

In less than a nanosecond, as if the Sword of God came out of my mouth, in a blast of words I said, ‘Hey man! What´s this bullshit you´re bringing on down here? Can´t you see? Haven´t you got eyes? Didn´t you see me come here with my brothers carrying this back pack on my back? What´s this lie? What´s this lie? you´re trying to make, that my back pack is your back pack?’

The fellow fell back on the blast of words, but recovering, came back on me again with his words. I said, ‘Hey man! I´m from CanaDa. I´m not even from this Country. I came down here to see how the American people live? Are you how the American people live, man? I´ll tell you the Truth by God, if the American people live like you, this Country is going to burn, and burn bad, and fall into the pit.

Falling back from the blast, he recovered and came back at me again. It seemed like an Eternity, but in the back and fourth, I had confidence God in me is stronger than he that is in the world.

When this fellow suddenly changed the scene, I recognized immediately I had to suppress all fear, otherwise not only would I have lost my back pack, I probably would have got a beating as well. Macho words and actions would not have saved me. Nor would it have been wise to use words with the effect of pouring gasoline on the fire. I just held firm to what is right and mine.

Eventually, I thanked God, two Angels appeared out the crowd. Not the people that brought me there, but two other strangers in the group came forward, and pushing my antagonist, said to him, ‘Don´t touch that man and don´t touch his stuff.’  The one guy backed down right away and the scene calmed down. The joints were passed around again as I answered many questions.

Truth, Justice and Goodness transcends race, religion, socio/economic status and educational level.

After a while, the people who brought me there offered to escort me to back to the hotel where they found me. Leaving me at the door, one lad said, ‘Hey you crazy white man! What you doin´ cumin down here stirrin´ everyone up like that for?’

It cost $5 for a clean, comfortable room and getting in bed, I thanked God for being Alive and delivering me from evil.

But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool?
Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who SHALL BE heirs of salvation?

Hebrews 1:13-14

Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 1:13

TODAY is the Day The Lord has made. Let´s Rejoice and be Glad in it.

A PRESENT DANGER

There is a massive propaganda effort underway these days inciting for war against Iran that if left unchecked and consented to by the silence of the people, the Middle East and the world will be caught up in a conflict that will be the war to end all wars and possibly humanity itself.

If we cannot face the evils from our Past, and learn from them Today, we will be ill-equipped to deal with them in the Tomorrows of the Future if humanity does not changes it’s values and ways?

For Now we have Faith, Hope and Love, but the Greatest of these is Love.

1 Corinthians 13

Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
If when he sees the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
Then whosoever hears the sound of the trumpet, and does not take  warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
He heard the sound of the trumpet, and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that takes warning shall deliver his soul.
But if the watchman see the sword come, and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.
So you, O son of man, I have set you as a watchman to the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.
When I say to the wicked, O wicked man, you shalt surely die; if you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at your hand.
Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.
Therefore, O you son of man, speak to the house of Israel; Thus you speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?
Say to them, As I live, says the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn you, turn you from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel?

Ezekiel 33

The North America news media are not covering in depth, the daily increase in reprisal attacks between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.  This increase in violence, if left unchecked, is a greater threat to our traditional, habitual, routine daily lifestyles over here than anything happening in Libya or elsewhere.

A brief overview of the recent history of the conflict as I see it.

Six years after the 1973 war, Egypt, that did not recognize Israel, signs the Camp David Accord after lengthy negotiations. The Americans committed to pay Tribute to both Israel and Egypt for years and years to maintain Faux Pax Americana.

The PLO, rejecting the recognition of Israel, after lengthy negotiations, acknowledges the reality of Israel and agrees to the terms of The Oslo Accord of September 9, 1993

BOTH Israel and the PLO agreed to these terms,

The preamble refers to the “inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war and the need to work for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East in which every State in the area can live in security.”

Operative Paragraph One “Affirms that the fulfillment of Charter principles requires the establishment of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East which should include the application of both the following principles:

(i) Withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict;

(ii) Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for and acknowledgement of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force.” [3]

The following video made in 2001 shows Netanyahu boasting how he emasculated and made inoperative the hope of the Oslo Accord in which the Palestinians formally recognized the State of Israel. Abiding by the terms of the Oslo accord, Israel could no longer expand and build settlements in the Occupied West Bank, the very land that is the reason for Peace negotiations.

In my view, both sides have violated the Spirit and the letter of that historic agreement offering only the HOPE of both sides accommodating each other by their actions subsequent to the signing. Charges from one side or the other about who of the two parties is the greater “sinner” is as useful as debating how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?

In 2006, in a Democratic election all external monitors declared to be Free and Fair, Hamas won the majority of seats in the Palestinian Legislature with the Democratic right to form the Palestinian government.

That 2006 election radically changed the Status Quo in the conflict like nothing else before it. Israel could no longer claim to be the only Democratically elected government in the area, thereby losing the monopoly on that claim and sense of exclusivity.

We know it is true Democratic political parties in Opposition to whatever government make the most outrageous claims and accusations not having the responsibility of governing. Once they get in power, they moderate those extreme positions and usually end up doing the same things they criticized the previous government for doing.

If Peace and Democracy really was the Goal, Israel, the US and the rest of the Democratic West should have entered serious discussions with Hamas without pre-conditions, and create a framework to move ahead toward the True Peace of  God, realizing and actualizing the inheritance of Abraham by acts that build Trust and Consideration of our Common Ancestry and Humanity in the Common Era.

What did the Democratic West do when the Palestinians  chose a Democratically elected Hamas government? They immediately cut off ALL financial aid to the Palestinians with the deliberate intention of causing a violent split between Fatah and Hamas. In this they succeeded, with Hamas eventually contained within the ghetto/prison of Gaza

Israel, the US and the West denied Hamas a legitimate victory at the Ballot Box. What message did the Western Democracies send to Hamas by their concerted action in aborting the Birth of the 1st Arab Democracy? Bullets over Ballots as it is to this Day?

Statement by Abba Eban, Israeli Foreign Minister, June 14, 1967.

“Wars are not always begun by shots. They are often begun by action and the action which really created the state of war in an acute sense was the imposition of the blockade. To try to murder somebody by strangulation is just as much attempted murder as if you tried to murder him by a shot, and therefore the act of strangulation was the first violent, physical act which had its part in the sequence.”

That was True then when Israel was the victim, but is not True Today when Gaza is the victim?

I think the Palestinians and Islam see the Jews, in the name of their religion, slowly but surely taking more Palestinian land, a little at a time, expanding  and building new settlements on the very land that is the reason for Peace negotiations, contrary to the Oslo Accord.

Israel claims it stands for Peace and negotiations without pre-conditions as the Prime Minister of Israel says all the time.

Every new settlement and expansion is a precondition Israel is setting on the ground. Claiming to stand for negotiations without preconditions, Israel is not willing to talk with Hamas without  Hamas accepting the precondition of acknowledging Israel as a Jewish State. It’s all the Palestinians fault their propaganda convinces the West. The whole world is now beginning to see the difference between lip service and heart service to the Almighty God of Abraham, Father to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Of course the Jews don’t see it that way so there is already a Spiritual war taking place in this earth and humans are the host body and proxies of the spirits engaged in that Spiritual warfare.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Ephesians 6:12

And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. (furiously active in Judaism, Christianity & Islam Today)
For they are the spirits of DEVILS, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth (Pope, Presidents, Prime Ministers, Rich minority, CEOs) and of the whole world, (the rest of us) to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
Behold, I come as a thief. ( when it is least expected)
Blessed is he that watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
Revelation 16

It is a tragedy to see Armageddon on the way that will engulf the whole world because it is not the Will of God. The Bible tells us clearly, indisputably,  if humanity goes down that path, it is the work of the three unclean spirits, devils and the false prophet described in Revelation 16. The Revelation is when we can see it happening in this material world, and those who have eyes to see, can see it happening now.

The greatest achievement of the false prophet is to have religious people believing in their own self-righteousness but not in the righteousness of Christ.

Hear O Israel! The Lord our God is One and we are many.

TV & POPULAR CULTURE: IDOLS, ADVERTISING AND UNREAL REALITY

The nominally Western Christian societies are perplexed by the rise of militant Islam angry at the West. At a time when the tightening world money supply should be spent on human development, our leaders are increasingly diverting those limited dollars on increased police and military activity in the cause “protecting Western Christian Democratic Values.”

Nowhere is that madness more obvious than in the West´s undeclared War in Pakistan.

Patriotism demands the people support the troops. They are the pawns in global political leader´s geopolitical strategies in achieving dominant power status.

We pay no attention to the increasing numbers of innocent civilians killed in Pakistan by America´s remote controlled war, thinking that´s over there, far from here.  Pakistan is a nuclear weapons equipped near failed State. As of Today, America´s undeclared war on Pakistan is causing greater insecurity in Pakistan that could push it over the edge.

As a concerned World Citizen I read many newspapers online, including the view from Pakistan. This article from May 30, 2010 is still current and something that must be understood if humans, as a species, will overcome the forces that work to divide us, leading to our self-destruction.

As I read this report, I immediately saw the writer, a Pakistani with an Islamic perspective, describes a near universal point of view. As a Western Christian, it was like looking through a glass darkly. He is also describing our society.

Frayed ends of sanity

by Nadeem F. Paracha on  05 29th, 2010

Over and over again I have been using Dawn and Dawn.com to hit home the point about the vicious, soul destroying mindset the bulk of Pakistan’s urban middle-classes (especially in the Punjab) have fallen in to.

I have tried to give numerous examples to highlight this devastating observation and here again is another one: On May 28 when terrorists associated with what is called the ‘Punjabi Taliban’ attacked various places of worship of the Ahmadiyya community in Lahore, the TV channels were out in force covering the gruesome event. However, that did not stop them from running happy-go-lucky commercials of their corporate sponsors during breaks, giving the whole event a rather surreal feel.

But this can be expected from this unfortunate republic’s many TV channels. There is now not an iota of doubt left about the level of sheer cynicism, sensationalism and demagoguery that they operate on. Most of them have become a reckless reflection of some of the most obnoxious, conspiratorial and chauvinistic sections found within the country’s convulsing middle-classes.

That said, one however does expect some semblance of decency and reason in the polished corridors of the companies that advertise their brands on these channels. Couldn’t any of these companies that always claim to be ‘good social citizens’ have the presence of mind and heart to ask TV channels to stop running their ads during the coverage of blood-splattered events?

Can’t they see how strange their ads look and sound when squeezed between images of blood, gore and tragedy? Don’t these ads with an unending series of plastic smiles and jingly material-worshipping actually end up mocking the tragedy that is unfolding live on the TV screens?

I don’t think such a thought even crosses their minds. And how can it when a number of the same companies so nonchalantly end up sponsoring TV shows run by utter hate-mongers. It’s quite a sight, really, watching macho, loud demagogues and so-called TV anchors spiting venom against the West and then asking for a break that are riddled with commercials of Western multinationals.

A religious TV show on a popular TV channel that in 2009 instigated violence against the Ahmadiyyas continues to be sponsored by various colas, facial creams, telecom brands and shampoos, and so is the show whose host is under scrutiny for allegedly having sympathies and links with terrorist organisations.

In my eyes the companies who claim to represent the decent, ‘family-oriented’ and peaceful ‘modern’ sections of the educated urbanites carry an equal amount of blame as do the channels that let hate-mongers run amok in the studios just to jack up their ratings.

It’s like shouting populist slogans mingled with idiotic juice, milk and telecom jingles over the dead bodies of all those unfortunate souls that these very channels so enthusiastically report and show.

Is there no one among us so-called educated urban classes with the sight, mind and conscience to at least question the kind of convoluted and surreal corporate-jihadi anarchy so clearly visible on TV channels?

Can’t we see that much of what is being preached and ‘debated’ on our channels in the name of religion, justice, reform and politics (and cynically being sponsored by multinationals), is one of the major reasons behind the confused and ravaged state our middle-classes (especially its youth) have come to suffer?

This is not an overstatement. Certain TV anchors and their shows have proven to have enough power to actually instigate violence. Examples are in abundance of idiots listening to idiots on TV, gathering hateful ideas about certain Muslim sects, ‘minorities,’ and personalities, with some actually going to the extent of committing murder in the name of religion.

And yet we can still see such TV anchors and their favourite side-kicks holding fort on prime-time television, and multinationals willingly sponsoring all the hatred and venom that is spewed on these shows.

So what is that narrative upon which a bulk of Pakistan’s ‘political’ and ‘religious’ TV programming is based on?

For years this narrative has gleefully been disseminated by the state, the clergy, schools and now the electronic media.  It’s quite simple: Pakistan was made in the name of Islam (read, a theocratic state). Thus, only Muslims (mainly orthodox Sunnis) have the right to rule, run and benefit from this country. ‘Minority’ religions and ‘heretical Islamic sects’ living as Pakistani citizens are not to be trusted. They need to be constitutionally, socially and culturally isolated.

Parliamentary democracy too can’t be trusted. It unleashes ethnic forces, ‘corruption’ and undermines the role of the military and that of Islam in the state’s make-up. It threatens the ‘unity’ of the country; a unity based on a homogeneous understanding of Islam (mainly concocted by the state and its right-wing allies). Most of our political, economic and social ills are due to the diabolical conspiracies hatched by our many enemies (especially India, Israel and the West in general). They want to break up Pakistan because Pakistan is the ‘bastion of Islam’ in a volatile region dominated by Indian, American and Shia Iranian hegemony. The many terrorist organisations operating in Pakistan are foreign funded …

This narrative can go on in its bizarre depiction of what we as a country are or should become. Not for a moment are we ready to stand back a bit and look at what we have made of ourselves and of what we call our home. We call ourselves ‘moderate Muslims,’ and yet applaud or quietly tolerate the hate-spewing claptrap that pours out from our mosques and TV screens. We cheer about the fact that Pakistan is one of the very few democratic Muslim countries with a constitution, and yet we will not speak a word about those clauses and sections in the same constitution that have triggered violence and repression against women and have sanctioned a religiously apartheid state that only allows the orthodox Muslim majority democratic rights to rule the country, or run in an election.

Isn’t it obvious that not only do these sections in the much celebrated constitution go against the modern-Muslim vision of men like Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Iqbal and Syed Ahmed Khan, but are also against the basic spirit of tolerance, mercy and justice so vividly present in the Quran?

We have clearly lost sight of what Pakistan was supposed to be: A democratic, modern Muslim country where religion had nothing to do with the matters of the state and where the so-called ‘minorities’ were free to practice their respective faiths.

These are not my words. And neither are they the words that Pakistani children are taught at school, in spite of the fact that these words and thoughts were spoken by the founder of the country, Jinnah, when he succeeded in carving out a country for the Muslims of the subcontinent, thinking that they would struggle under what he believed would become a ‘Hindu theocracy.’

So what happened to that Pakistan? The obvious culprits in this regard are the many years of repressive military regimes and their growing nexus with obscurantist forces that we have had to burden and face. But were the democrats any better?

The 1973 constitution that legitimised religious apartheid was inaugurated under a brilliant and popularly elected Prime Minister and approved by equally elected members of the parliament. And even though the same constitution was further riddled with myopic laws against religious minorities and women by a fanatical and hypocritical ‘Islamic’ dictatorship, how many democrats that came after the demise of this dictatorship ever bothered to at least debate or review these laws?

So much has become taboo in this country — so much so that the question now arises, can we ever become a truly free, enlightened and intellectually robust nation? Or will we keep hiding behind our fragile masks of religiosity and ‘patriotism,’ a mask that goes up in front of our faces every time we are confronted by a situation in which our views and actions (especially in the name of faith) are questioned.

We do not debate. We react and then huddle up behind our flimsy and lopsided historical and national narratives for reassurance, cursing the world for our ills, looking out for ‘infidels’ and ‘heretics’ among us, or for scapegoats in the shape of media-constructed punching bags.

The nightmare we are living today has a lot to do with all this. We remain in a slumber, carving out an isolated ideological comfort zone for ourselves, while obnoxious, sectarian and so-called puritanical keepers of the faith attack and kill in the name of God whenever and however they please. We claim to be treading a middle-path between liberalism and fanaticism, when the truth is, it is exactly the middle-path that has gone entirely missing in how we think, behave, act and react.
